I know traffic and transportation are major concerns across Northern Virginia, and I have a long history of focusing on solutions to these challenges facing our region.

As a member of the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission during my time in the State Senate, I brought resources to my district to relieve congestion, fix problems with Metro, and advocate for smart growth in Loudoun and Fairfax counties. I introduced legislation that would give localities more control over, and funding for, transportation projects in their jurisdictions and opposed tolls on I-66 and repeatedly carried legislation to reduce the tolls on the Dulles Greenway.

As a member of the Transportation and Housing and Urban Development Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee, I have steered federal funding to address Northern Virginia’s transportation and housing priorities. I have secured millions in federal funding to support local projects that will reduce congestion, make our roads safer and more accessible for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians, increase access to public transit, improve drinking water infrastructure, and expand our region’s supply of affordable housing. I have also maintained federal support for Metro, increased funding for federal programs that invest in innovative technology being developed in VA-10, and strengthened programs that provide housing for low-income families.

Infrastructure Investment
America must rebuild our crumbling infrastructure. That’s why I was proud to vote to pass the once-in-a-generation Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

The investments we delivered in this bill will restore and rebuild our roads, bridges, public transit, airports, rail lines, and EV charging stations – while creating millions of good-paying jobs. I’m particularly proud that through this legislation we’re making universal broadband a reality, expanding high-speed service to every home and business in Virginia.

The legislation also increased supply chain capacity through our ports and improved our water infrastructure by replacing lead pipes and ensuring every household has access to clean and safe drinking water.

Metro
I’ve made it a priority to ensure that Metro is safe, reliable, and built to last for all Virginians. Our Bipartisan Infrastructure Law delivered a crucial 10-year authorization of millions of dollars for capital expenses for WMATA along with new safety and accountability measures. I have conducted regular oversight of the Silver Line Phase 2 project to ensure its completion is up to standards and, as is the case with so many Virginians, I eagerly await its opening.

Housing
Northern Virginia has been one of our country’s fastest-growing areas, but our region’s supply of affordable housing has not kept up with demand. That is why I have worked to strengthen federal investment in programs that build and maintain affordable housing for everyone, including first-time homebuyers, seniors, and people with disabilities. I also supported policies to help struggling homeowners and renters during the pandemic, and I worked to ensure equal access to shelter for transgender people and others experiencing homelessness.
