I have worked hard to promote fairness and equal opportunity for all LGBTQ+ Americans and fight back against the disgusting wave of hate and discrimination facing the community – particularly young transgender Americans.

As a proud member of the Congressional LGBTQ Equality Caucus and co-chair of the Transgender Equality Task Force, I continue to be a strong advocate for the LGBTQ community. I have supported legislation in Congress to expand anti-discrimination statutes, fight against bullying of LGBTQ youth, and other initiatives to make our country more inclusive and equal for everyone.

I’ve voted to pass the Equality Act to guarantee full legal protections for LGBTQ+ Americans and legislation to enshrine into law marriage equality. Last Congress, I introduced the Ensuring Equal Access to Shelter Act, to ensure access to shelter for transgender Americans by blocking a discriminatory rule proposed by the Trump Administration that would allow shelters and programs to discriminate against transgender people. I also advocated for funding for specialized services for LGBTQ+ youth within the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline which was included in the FY23 committee appropriations bill.
